More than thirty migrants drown in two accidents in the Aegean Sea

Istanbul: Today, media of Turkey said, more than thirty migrants drowned in two accidents in the Aegean Sea as they tried to cross from Turkey to Greece. Twenty two people died when their boat sank off the district of Edremit in Balikesir province, shortly after 11 migrants died off Izmir, they said.

According to Dogan news agency, Both vessels had apparently been trying to reach the Greek island of Lesbos. Forty five people drowned on January 22 when three refugee boats sank on Friday off Greece, as Turkey pledged to “do everything” to stop record numbers of migrants heading to Europe. Despite wintry conditions, thousands of people fleeing war and misery are still embarking on the dangerous sea journey to seek a better life in Europe.
